Logansport Parks Board seeking public comment on surplus properties and proposed dog park

Last Updated on November 10, 2021 by Cass County Online

The agenda for the Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021 meeting of the Logansport Parks and Recreation Board includes two opportunities for public comment – on a resolution to declare certain park properties as surplus, and on the use of the ballfield at Muehlhausen Park as a proposed dog park.

The resolution to declare certain properties as surplus says that the Logansport Parks and Recreation Department currently manages approximately 381 acres and 19 properties throughout the City of Logansport, plus five additional easements that require maintenance attention.

According to the resolution, “the Logansport Parks and Recreation Board has been encouraged by the City Administration to reduce current park properties to balance park inventory as additional properties become park responsbilities in the near future (i.e. LTW Commons, Disc Golf, additional trails, Riverside Park renovations, etc.)”

The resolution states that the following park-managed properties are “surplus” and would be made available for sale, lease, and/or sponsorship opportunities.

Burkhart Park
503 E. Market, .25 acres

Dunwoody Park
16 18th Street

Heritage Preservation Park
415 E. Market Street (1/4 acre)

Melbourne Park (or a portion of that acreage)
1317 W. Melbourne (5 acres)

Patriot Park (or a portion of that acreage)
133 Wheatland Ave., along the Eel River (5 acres)

The resolution would be in effect upon passage by both the Logansport Parks and Recreation Board and the Logansport Common (City) Council.

The Parks Board Packet does not include any additional info about the use of the ballfield at Muehlhausen Park as a proposed dog park.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10 in the City Council chambers on the third floor of the Logansport City Building.
