Logansport Memorial Hospital sees COVID-19 surge; shares current visitor restrictions and vaccination info

Last Updated on August 10, 2022 by Logansport Memorial Hospital

Logansport Memorial Hospital continues to see a surge of COVID cases and high census. The latest surge has overwhelmed providers, nurses and other patient care team members.

“The patients we are seeing today are really sick and require more resources,” said President and CEO Perry Gay. “This coupled with the labor shortage and limited access to beds for critically ill patients around the state means our emergency room is backing up.”

As a reminder, we are asking the community to be aware of when to seek care in the Emergency Room. If you are having a medical emergency, please call 911. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please go to the Emergency Room:

  • Difficulty breathing, chest pain
  • Suspected stroke, seizures
  • Facial or eye trauma
  • Suspected heart attack
  • Attempted suicide
  • Knife or gunshot wounds
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Severe burns
  • Blood in stool
  • Amputations, severe cuts
  • Broken bones

The ER should not be used for minor illnesses or injuries. Patients experiencing minor injuries or common illnesses should seek medical treatment with their primary care provider or by visiting Express Medical Center walk-in clinic before coming to the Emergency Room. This allows our medical staff to treat the most critically ill patients in a timelier manner and get people through the system and discharged to free up beds.

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS

Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is an important tool for helping protect yourself and your loved ones. COVID-19 vaccines can help keep you from getting and spreading COVID-19, or from getting very sick even if you do test positive for COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccines were developed using science that has been around for decades. They are not experimental and have gone through all of the required stages of clinical trials. Extensive testing and monitoring has shown that these vaccines are safe and effective. The COVID-19 vaccines have also been shown to be highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death from the emerging Delta and Omicron variants.

Vaccinations are available at the Cass County Health Department on Smith Street, on Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart pharmacies also offer appointments for COVID-19 vaccines at your convenience. For vaccines at one of these local pharmacies, follow the steps online to enter your zip code and see local store availability.

Appointments are required in all locations:

VISITOR RESTRICTIONS POLICY

Visitor restrictions remain in place at Logansport Memorial Hospital. No visitors or support persons under the age of 18 are allowed. The most recent policy limits visitors to one or two healthy support people, in most patient care areas. All visitors are required to self-screen when entering the facility, and required to wear a mask. If you are symptomatic, please do not enter the facility.

The full visitor restrictions policy is posted on the LMH website for continued reference and will be updated and
reposted as changes are made during our coordinated, collaborative response to COVID-19 in our community.

Please be assured that our highest priority continues to be the health and safety of our patients and staff.
