A ribbon cutting was held December 15, 2021 to reopen Melbourne Avenue following Logansport Municipal Utilities’ multimillion-dollar wet weather (stormwater) project that began the week of February 4, 2019. Melbourne Avenue officially closed to traffic on Feb. 18, 2019. A mini-parade of vehicles followed the ribbon cutting.

This project involved stacking two 10-foot diameter pipes under the roadway along Melbourne Avenue, from Eel River Avenue, east to 5th Street and constructing a pump station at 1st and Melbourne.

The project was part of a federal requirement to reduce overflows of wastewater into the rivers during heavy rainfall. The pipes will store water during heavy rains, then gradually release the water back to LMU’s sewage collection system to be treated at LMU’s wastewater plant.
