Mike Deitrich is the Republican candidate for Cass County Commissioner District 3.
Below are his responses to questions from Cass County Online that were sent by the local party chairs to the local candidates.
The District 3 Commissioner must live in Clinton, Deer Creek, Jackson, Miami, Tipton or Washington Township and is voted on by all precincts.

Why did you decide to run for this office?
Clinton Township has seen numerous changes in the past ten years. Cass County will be challenged with similar changes in the next four years. I believe my past and current experience in leadership positions will prove invaluable in offering innovative solutions for future opportunities involving Cass County.
What would you like voters to know about you?
I am a lifelong resident of Cass County. I am the sixth generation to own and operate a family farm in Clinton Township. I have over 40 years experience in Fire Fighting and EMS. I have served in the past as a member of the Eel Township Advisory Board and am currently the trustee for Clinton Township. Together with my wife Karen we are the proud parents of five children and eight grandchildren.
What are the most important issues related to the office you are seeking?
Increasing the county tax base, retention of county employees, expanding affordable housing, and engaging in dialogue with county constituents.
What are your top priorities for action if elected?
- Retain and encourage growth in businesses already located in Cass County.
- Actively pursue new manufacturing, industrial, service oriented, and small businesses to
locate in Cass County. - Continue the trend in elevating wages for county employees to achieve parity with
surrounding counties. - Interact with city officials in bringing additional housing to Logansport and Cass County.
What’s your vision for the community and what role does the office you are seeking play in achieving it?
Living in a community which has struck the right balance in recruiting businesses which offer livable wages and has affordable housing readily available while respecting and protecting Cass County’s rural heritage and natural resources. The position of county commissioner allows for input in setting the strategic goals that will achieve the end result we all can be proud of.
