We are excited to announce that the first baby of the New Year was born on January 2 at 10:35 p.m. to Shana and Brian Enders from Logansport, Indiana. Baby Silas is 7 pounds 14 ounces, 22 inches long, and has a full head of brown hair.
Shana’s due date wasn’t until January 5, so coming in early was a surprise. Finding out Silas was the first baby of the New Year was an even bigger surprise.
“We were excited to find out that we had the first baby of the New Year. Coming in when we did, we figured there would have already been a baby born,” commented Shana. “This has been such an exciting process. We were nervous at first, of course, but this just made the experience that much better.” Brian shared that this was the perfect ending to a long journey. “We weren’t sure this was ever going to happen. Silas is an in vitro fertilization baby, and this was a long process. He is our miracle.” Shana said, “There were lots of downs but this is one great up.”
Shana and Brian continued to be surprised as Jade Herr, OB Nurse Manager, began filling their room full of presents for the New Year’s Baby. They were very thankful, and appreciated that the community cared so much about the families delivering at Logansport Memorial Hospital. The Enders family received a gift basket, Radio Flyer Wagon, Graco swing, booster high chair seat, Fisher Price bouncer seat, teddy bear, smoke detectors and fire extinguisher, personal cleaning products, diamond stud earrings, queen bed sheets and memory foam pillows, cookies, and items purchased from cash donations including swaddle blankets, lotions and soaps, an infant wrap, 4-in-1 convertible carrier, diapers and wipes, a car seat, and baby tub. “A special thanks goes out to our donors,” commented Jade Herr. “They are all local donors, including the family of the First Baby last year who paid it forward like the family before them.”
As they prepare to head home, Shana looks forward to the moment she has been waiting for this whole time… to see their son, Beau, hold his baby brother. Both Shana and Brian described this as a “special experience” and agreed with their nurse, Hillary Hall, RN, that this was a great way to bring in 2022.
