Last Updated on February 17, 2022 by Cass County Treasurer

Cass County Treasurer Cindy Howard was recently recognized by the Association of Indiana Counties for her efforts in recovering delinquent taxes for the county.  TRECS (Tax Refunds Exchange Compliance System) is a tool that can be used by local units of government to off-set tax refunds for delinquent debt owed to the unit.   A like tool is used by the State of Indiana for universities and child support.

Cass County received $33,415.28 from the offset program.  Taxpayers have 30 days from the date of hold on their refund to come into the County Treasurer’s Office and satisfy their debt with no additional fees or penalties.  With these efforts, taxpayers are spared  going to tax sale and they are not sent to collection agencies where higher fees are assessed.
