Last Updated on June 26, 2022 by Indiana State Police

Logansport – Today, a vehicle pursuit ended with a crash between a GMC Yukon and a Logansport Police Department Dodge Charger. At the request of the Logansport Police Department, the Indiana State Police initiated an investigation.

The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Todd Trottier revealed that today at approximately 1:27 p.m., a Logansport Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2002 GMC Yukon. The driver of the Yukon, identified as John D. Marks, 48, Walton, IN, failed to stop and led the officer on a pursuit. The chase ended near the intersection of Meadlawn Avenue and Norcross Street when the Yukon crashed into a 2021 Dodge Charger police car. The Charger was driven by Logansport Police Officer Leeann Morales, 35.

Further investigation showed that Marks was driving northbound on Meadlawn Avenue approaching Norcross Street. Morales was driving eastbound on Norcross Street. She turned southbound onto Meadlawn Avenue when the vehicles collided nearly head-on.

Marks was flown, via medical helicopter, to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. His current condition is unknown. Morales was transported, by ambulance, to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This is an ongoing crash investigation. Any questions about the pursuit should be referred to the Logansport Police Department.

Trottier was assisted at the crash scene by ISP Sergeant Rick Brown, Senior Trooper A.J. Coffee, and Senior Trooper Jeremy Perez.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
