Area responders participate in fire instructor certification training

Last Updated on August 28, 2022 by Cass County Emergency Management

LOGANSPORT, IN – Saturday was the culmination of a month long training for 13 responders from seven different area public safety agencies. Current certified fire instructors have been working to obtain a Fire Instructor II Certification thru training hosted at the Cass County Emergency Management Agency.

The Instructor II program has been limited in offerings for a few years. Cass County EMA was able to make the program available locally and free of charge for Cass County responders.

This program trains instructors in supervising other instructors, management of department training programs as well as supervising high hazard training evolutions such as live fire, technical rescue or HAZMAT. The certification further enables responders to serve as a “Lead Evaluator” for state certification courses, a need across the county to make more state certified training programs possible.

Saturday course participants put together an auto extrication training as part of the final course practical. About 20 students from around the area received instruction from the Instructor II candidates who supervised a days’ worth of training evolutions. The training was entirely organized and managed by the Instructor II candidates.

The course included participants from the following agencies:

Cass County Emergency Management Agency

Cass County Emergency Medical Services

Cass County Fire District 1

Clymers Clinton Township Fire Department

Galveston Fire Department

Logansport Fire Department

New Waverly Fire Department

Special thanks to Cass County Towing, K&K Recovery (Russ Collins), Mike’s Auto (Jim Conrad) and Discount Towing (Ray Lincoln) for arranging vehicles to make the practical part of the program possible. Thank you to Cass County Towing for hosting the event.
