Bryan Looker has been appointed the new county historian in Cass County. Looker replaces Thelma Conrad, who is designated Cass County Historian Emeritus.
Looker graduated from Lewis Cass High School in 1990 and attended Ball State University, majoring in history. After graduating in 1995, Looker and his wife, Julee, moved back to Cass County, where he was the director of the Cass County Historical Society from 2000-2006. He is also entering his 11th year teaching Advance College Project (ACP) U.S. history at Logansport High School.
In her time as Cass County Historian, Conrad digitized the Cass County Historical Society vintage photo collection and worked with city and county officials and the Wabash & Erie Canal Society to place signage marking the path of the canal through Cass County. She also compiled a book about Cass County WWII veterans — complete with bios, photos and news clippings — with proceeds going to the Cass County Historical Society.
The Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau thank all Indiana county historians for their service and dedication to local history.
In 1981, through an effort to improve the historical communication network in the state, the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau established the Indiana County Historian Program.
County historians serve as volunteers appointed by the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Historical Bureau to promote local history in their counties, connect individuals and groups with history resources, promote collaboration between local history organizations and maintain connections with the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Historical Bureau.
