Update on August 20, 2023 accident at CR 500 South and CR 500 E in Cass County, Indiana

On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a single vehicle crash south of County Road 500 South on County Road 500 East. Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the rash along with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, New Waverly Fire Department, Walton Fire Department and Cass County Emergency Medical Services. Initial scene assessment found a single vehicle had been going northbound before traveling off the roadway and colliding with a tree.

Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Pat Zeider found Konnor Galloway, 31, of Logansport, IN, had been driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala northbound on County Road 500 East when he drove off the east side of the roadway, overcorrected and crossed the roadway. After crossing the roadway, the Impala traveled off the west side of County Road 500 East and struck a large tree.

The driver, Konnor Galloway, refused treatment at the scene for minor injuries. A juvenile front seat passenger, age 8, of Logansport, IN was transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne via medical helicopter after extrication from the vehicle by fire personnel. The juvenile passenger sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Neither of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident.

The crash is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.
