Cass County Fire District #1 (CCFD#1) Board of Trustees announces they have hired a new fire chief, Steven Fisher. The Board has also hired three new firefighters, Brayden Shoaf, Brock Cohee and Charity Musselman. On Friday, September 1, 2023, CCFD#1 Fire Chief Steve Fisher, swore in the last new hire, Charity Musselman. Charity is the first full-time female firefighter of Cass County, Indiana.
Steven Fisher, Monticello, IN (Fire Chief)
Steve Fisher is a retired firefighter and Captain from the Monticello Fire Department where he had been employed since 1984 and retired in 2021. Steve also served as a volunteer firefighter for 16 years prior to his promotion to Captain of Monticello Fire in 2007. He has been a full-time paramedic since 1999 and is currently working part time with Carroll County EMS. He has also served as District 4 Training Instructor from 2018-2021 providing fire training instruction for Lafayette and Monticello part time.
Brayden Shoaf, Galveston, IN. (Firefighter)
Brayden pursued his career in firefighting directly after graduating from Western High School in 2022. He was a volunteer at Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department in Kokomo, IN. while obtaining his Firefighter I & II Certifications to start his career. Brayden started his full-time position with the department on July 2, 2023. Brayden was previously employed at Graves Sheet Metal in Kokomo, IN.
Brock Cohee, Young America, IN. (Firefighter)
Brock pursued his career in firefighting directly after graduating from Lewis Cass High School in 2023. He served as Jr. Volunteer at Young America Volunteer Fire Department since 2020 and has served as volunteer firefighter with Young America Volunteer Fire Department since September of 2022 where he completed his Firefighter 1 & II Certifications to start his career. Brock started part-time with Cass County Fire District on July 5, 2023, and moved to full time on July 18, 2023. Brock was previously employed with Country Lawn & Garden in Galveston, IN.
Charity Musselman, Lucerne, IN (Firefighter)
Charity has become the first female firefighter hired on a full-time department in Cass County Indiana. She is a 2010 high school graduate of Pioneer High School, and 2017 graduate of Indiana University Kokomo where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree. Charity has served on the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department for six years. While serving in her volunteer capacity she obtained her Firefighter I & II Certification and her EMT Certifications. Charity started part-time at CCFD1 on July 17, 2023, and hired full-time on September 1, 2023. Charity is also employed at the Pear Tree Gallery in Logansport, Indiana. Her first shift working full-time was on September 4, 2023.
