Crash on CR 450 E injures one

On Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023 at approximately 3 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a single vehicle crash south of County Road 375 North on County Road 450 East. Several deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Twelve Mile Fire Department, Cass County Fire District 1 and Cass County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Initial scene assessment found a single vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway and struck a fence and tombstones.

Preliminary investigation by Deputy Ryan Preston found that Kayla Whitus, 30, Logansport, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on County Road 450 East. She drove off the east side of the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a fence and four tombstones in the Spring Creek Cemetery.

Whitus was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Impaired driving is believed to be a factor in this crash.

The crash is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.
