Sections of Michigan Avenue / Indiana State Road 25 (SR-25) and East Miami Avenue in Logansport, Indiana will be closed starting Tuesday, December 5, 2023, as contractors completing the state mandated Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) project work to install underground water piping.
Logansport Utilities’ contractor Thieneman Construction has obtained the permit to begin work starting Tuesday, December 5, 2023, on Michigan Avenue / SR-25 and East Miami Avenue from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
The first road closure will run along East Miami Avenue from Michigan Avenue to Sixth Street. The second road closure will be along Michigan Avenue / SR-25 from East Miami Avenue, in front of the McClure’s gas station, to the south side of Ottawa Street. There will still be access to the gas station. There are alternative routes around the closures for local traffic.
INDOT has provided detours for thru traffic traveling on IN SR-25 during the closure.
Semi-trucks and vehicle thru traffic traveling south on SR-25 will be directed to travel west on State Road 16 / County Road 700 N, and then south on State Road 17 / North 3rd Street.
Thru traffic traveling north on SR-25 will be directed to head north on State Road 17 / North 3rd Street.
The road closures are expected to run through at least February 2024 but could remain until late May 2024.
The CSO project is to help eliminate combined sewer overflows and prevent raw sewage from spilling into local rivers and waterways during heavy rain events. A directive from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) requires all CSO projects to be completed by 2026.
