Jon Sewell, 57, of Galveston, Indiana, was surrounded by his loving family and best friend when he passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on March 15, 1967, to his parents, Jack & Patsy (Coleman) Sewell.
Jon graduated from Northwestern High School, in 1986. He played basketball for the Tigers and standing at 6 feet 10 he put fear into the opponents that he faced.
After high school Jon worked on area farms doing farm hand work. He also was a truck driver for several years. He completed his EMT training in 1999 and started working at Howard Community for about a year. In 2000, he took a fulltime job at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo, formally known as St. Joseph Hospital. He worked in the EMS department on the ambulance taking care of the sick and injured citizens of Kokomo and Howard County. Jon worked at St. Vincent, for approximately 24 years until he had to retire this past spring of 2024 due to health reasons.
Jon’s hobbies were fishing, fishing and more fishing. Jon loved to get out in his boat with anybody who would go. He loved being outdoors on the water. He has traveled to several states and even Mexico & Canada on fishing trips with his fishing buddy Dave Williams. Jon also enjoyed cutting wood, warming up to a cozy fire at home, hunting deer, and spending time with family and friends.
Jon was never married but had tons of family, friends, and EMS co-workers who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Patsy Sewell. He is survived by a sister Kathy Crowe and her husband Randy of Kokomo, a brother Brian Sewell and his wife Sue of Rochester, niece Bethany (Sewell) Anderson and her husband Tyler of Rochester, and nephew Nathan Sewell and his wife Amanda and their daughter Charlotte of Rochester.
