LOGANSPORT, IN – Every year fireworks are featured in area celebrations and events. Some are large professional displays put on by large companies, others are small store bought or homemade for events with families or friends. Safety recommendations and standards are important to ensuring celebrations are positive and memorable experiences for all.
Saturday area responders participated in training to ensure preparedness for safe shows, as well as for responding when things go wrong. The Pyrotechnics Guild International Pyrotechnician training was provided to responders free of charge thanks to John Phillips of Hoosier Fireworks Guy.
Topics covered included Duties and Responsibilities of Show sponsors, display operators and first responders, fireworks and equipment, display site selection and setup, show operations, safe cleanup and methods for firing displays. Instruction included both classroom and hands on components firing live fireworks.
As a result of training personnel are better prepared to ensure shows are following applicable safety standards, and also more knowledgeable about how to respond should mishaps occur.
Participants included personnel from Cass County Emergency Management Agency, Cass County Fire District 1, Royal Center Fire Department, Lucerne Fire Department, New Waverly Fire Department and Twelve Mile Fire Department.
