LOGANSPORT, IN – Cass County Emergency Management Agency is excited to be the recipient of a $5,000.00 NIPSCO Public Safety Education and Training Grant. This marks the third consecutive year of NIPSCO support for Cass County public safety training. This funding, provided thru the NiSource Charitable Foundation, is part of an effort by NIPSCO to strengthen the communities where they do business.
Funding provided will provide area firefighters with a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) course taught by ladder and squad company personnel from FDNY. The mission of Rapid Intervention Teams is to locate a downed firefighter, package them and get them out of the fire environment. This course, taught by seasoned veterans, will teach firefighters how to use the tools they are likely to already have in their hands to make the biggest difference possible with the smallest time windows available. Instructors work in a high call volume environment and have been involved in actual firefighter removals.
Beyond the training, this funding will help provide a catalyst for firefighter safety and survival efforts as well as protocol development for firefighter mayday and rescue situations. Included in instruction are various drags, carries, high point rescue and airway management of a downed firefighter. The training will be held in early 2025.
Bringing these types of training opportunities to Cass County would not be possible without the support of invested industry partners such as NIPSCO. Continuing to invest in our community public safety responders highlights emphasis on safer communities and better chances of survival in emergency situations for both responders and the citizens they serve.
