Cass County, Ind. – On Monday, December 9, 2024, at approximately 8:46 p.m., off-duty Cass County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Leoudy Ventura attempted to stop a speeding car near County Road 475 East on US 35. The driver continued to accelerate and did not yield to Ventura’s emergency lighting.

The driver sped away onto County Road 225 South which is a dead-end road. The driver continued into a field and turned around and started south bound and ultimately returned northbound on US 35. The Nissan Altima continued northbound on US 25, exited onto Main street, turned northbound on 18th Street, turned westbound on Woodlawn Avenue, turned northbound on 9th Street, turned eastbound on High Street and then attempted to turn northbound on 14th Street. The driver of the Nissan was unable to maintain control and struck a parked car at the intersection of 14th and High Street in Logansport. The parked vehicle in turn struck another parked vehicle.

The juvenile driver fled from the vehicle and ran into Riverside Park where he ultimately entered the Eel River. Officers lost sight of the driver and were unable to apprehend him. Three juvenile passengers in the car were successfully detained and cooperated with the investigation of the incident. The juveniles were all released to family members at the scene.

The fleeing driver successfully eluded the pursuing officers but has been tentatively identified.

This incident is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Any possible criminal charges will be referred to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes and reached speeds near 120 MPH.
