Several deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash along with the Logansport Police Department, Clinton Township Fire Department, Logansport Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Conservation Officers and Cass County Emergency Medical Services. Initial scene assessment found a three-vehicle crash with the southbound lanes of SR 25 blocked.

Preliminary investigation by Deputy David Wells found that 89-year-old Doris Blume of Logansport, IN, had been driving a 2004 Dodge Caravan southbound on SR 25 in the outer lane when she changed lanes to the inner lane in an attempt to turn into the gravel crossover at the overpass for County Road 325 West. The van was struck in the driver’s side door by a southbound 2022 GMC Sierra crew cab pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Joseph Bierling of Allegan, MI. The GMC pickup truck was towing a goose neck trailer loaded with steel plates. After colliding with the pickup truck and trailer, the van was struck in the passenger’s side by an unloaded 2007 Sterling dump truck driven by 51-year-old Adam Larimer of Delphi, IN.

The Dodge van spun into the guard rail before coming to rest on the outer berm of SR 25. The GMC pickup truck and trailer jackknifed and came to rest in the median. The dump truck also stopped on the outer berm of southbound SR 25. All vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Doris Blume received life-threatening injuries and was flown from the scene to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne via a medical helicopter. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Family members have been notified by the Allen County Coroner.

The other two drivers refused treatment at the scene.

Southbound SR 25 was closed for approximately two hours for crash investigation an reconstruction.
