If you have plans to travel on Sunday, January 5 or Monday, January 6, 2025 please keep an eye on the conditions and don’t just rely on what it looks like here in Cass County, Indiana.

The winter weather advisory that was in effect for Cass County, Indiana was cancelled as of 9:41 a.m. Sunday, because significant accumulating snowfall is expected to remain south of the area.

We’re on the north side of a major winter storm that’s already caused hazardous travel conditions out west. Winter storm warnings are in effect for counties south of us.

The winter storm warning issued for the Indianapolis area, where 6-9 inches of snow, some ice accumulation, and gusting winds are predicted beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday states:

Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.”

For the Delphi / Lafayette / Kokomo area, with heavy snow, with accumulation of 3-7 inches and wind gusts to 35 mph expected, the winter storm warning in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday states:

Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.

Law enforcement officials remind people not to call 911 to check road conditions. 511IN.org contains information about road conditions, closures and width/weight. The website also offers snowplow cam views.
