
Building collapse leads to investigation

Approximately 10:40 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the Logansport Fire Department, Logansport Police Department, and Cass County EMS were dispatched to 1011 North Street in reference to a building explosion and collapse.
Upon arrival of units, it was discovered the west side of the building had collapsed. There was no fire at that time. LFD crews began a search of the building, evacuating the residents and monitoring for explosive atmospheres.
On further investigation, it was determined there was no explosion or fire. The building had collapsed due to structural failure. In all 5 apartments were occupied, 8 people and a cat were evacuated from the building. The house located just west of the apartment was also evacuated due to the instability of the apartment building. Four adults occupied the house. The Red Cross was contacted and provided temporary housing for those who were evacuated.
The Logansport Building Commissioner was on scene and condemned the apartment building. ServePro secured the property with fencing.
There were no injuries reported. Cass County Emergency Management and the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office, Investigation Division, also assisted at the scene.
