On July 4, 2026, the United States of America will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

America250 is a nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in commemorating the 250th anniversary of our country.

Cass County, Indiana will be participating in the national “Two Lights for Tomorrow” initiative,
commemorating the night of April 18-19, 1775 when Paul Revere saw the lights in the Old North
Church in Boston and made the famous ride through the night to alert the colonists. The first shots on the green at Lexington were fired on April 19, 1775.

The Indiana 250 Commission is asking that in every county, two lights are placed in the county
courthouse, in the highest possible window and on the north or east side on the nights of April 18 and 19, 2025. Lights in other county buildings, businesses and homes are encouraged to promote awareness
of the Semiquincentennial celebration of America 250.

Communities are also encouraged to plan service projects for that weekend or the week/weekend that follow.

Indiana’s Official Kick-Off to its celebration and commemoration of America 250 will include a
program at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis. Counties are also encouraged to plan for special events that day to officially begin the celebration and commemoration of America 250 in Indiana. Cass County’s America 250 committee is planning to participate in activities throughout the summer of
2025 to raise awareness of the celebration, which runs from Flag Day, June 14, 2025 through Independence Day, July 4, 2026.

Groups and organizations interested in hosting events or celebrations in celebration of America 250 are encouraged to reach out to Cass County committee chair, Michael Stajduhar, at
stajduharmichael@gmail.com.
