On Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at approximately 10:52 a.m., Cass County Central Dispatch was informed that a black pick-up truck had been stolen from the 12000 South block of County Road 300 East. Further investigation revealed a Dodge Journey stolen earlier in the day from Burger King in Logansport had been left at the scene where the truck had been stolen. Walton Marshal Tom Heflin observed the recently reported stolen truck at the intersection of County Road 800 South and County Road 300 East. A male drove the stolen truck into a muddy farm field at that intersection to evade Marshal Heflin. The truck became stuck in the mud and the driver fled southwest on foot into a wooded area where he evaded the pursuing officers. Several officers, canines and a drone from the Logansport Police Department converged on the area to establish a perimeter and search for the male. After an extensive search, the male was located in a corn crib in the southwest corner of the woods.

While officers were searching for the fleeing suspect, Cass County Central Dispatch received information that the male was also involved in an alleged residential entry in the 6000 East block of County Road 900 South.

The thirty-three year-old male, Nicholas Wilson of Walton, IN, was taken into custody. Mr. Wilson was incarcerated at the Cass County Detention Center with the following criminal charges:

Two counts of Automobile Theft – Level 5 Felony
Residential Entry – Level 6 Felony
Resisting Law Enforcement – Class A Misdemeanor

Other agencies assisting were the Logansport Police Department, Walton Fire Department, Walton Police Department and the Indiana State Police, and the Galveston Fire Department.

The incident is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with additional information or home surveillance video is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
