The following poem was shared by Pam Roller, Type 1 Diabetic:
The fourth Tuesday in March is designated as Diabetes Alert Day
With over 38 million diabetics in the U.S. fighting daily to live, it is safe to say
More information, screenings, awareness, and support are the essential key
Millions of people have diabetes, but don’t know it; some think, “It couldn’t be me”
The choice is yours; don’t avoid the warning signs or symptoms, but address them
This poem was written as a gentle reminder to encourage you, not at all to condemn
Increased thirst, hunger, and urination, fatigue, blurry vision, are signs to watch for
Also, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, wounds slow to heal, don’t ignore
Don’t delay, diabetes is a risky disease, see a physician right away
It could prevent you from having life-threatening complications; please start today
You can avoid blindness, nerve, feet, and dental damage, heart and kidney disease
Until a cure is found, managing the best we can, will put our minds at ease.
