LOGANSPORT – Prosecutor Noah Schafer announced that Anton T. Matthews, 38, of Chicago was sentenced this week in Cass Superior Court Two to 40 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death, a Level 1 Felony.  The sentence followed Matthews’ guilty plea on the eve of a trial that was scheduled to begin on February 2.

Probable cause affidavits filed in the case reveal that on September 2, 2023 approximately 12:00 p.m. the victim died from an overdose from drugs dealt by Matthews. First Responders Joshua Bennett and Joseph Schlosser of Logansport Police Department performed life-saving measures until Cass County EMS arrived.  An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was combined intoxication of Fentanyl, Acetyl Fentanyl and Methamphetamine.

The investigation was led by LPD Detective Clayton Frye. Over the following months, Frye discovered the chain of events that occurred prior to this tragedy, uncovering the conspiracy of individuals who played significant roles in the death of the victim. Evidence discovered by Frye linked Matthews’ to an already open investigation by the Cass County Drug Task Force. Three additional cases were filed against Matthews for Dealing in Fentanyl, Acetyl Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and Cocaine.

Anton T. Matthews was charged in four separate cases and plead guilty to Dealing Resulting in Death a Level 1 Felony; Dealing in Methamphetamine a Level 2 Felony, Dealing in a Narcotic Drug a Level 2 Felony, and Dealing in Methamphetamine a Level 2 Felony and as a Habitual Offender.

Honorable Judge Lisa Swaim sentenced Matthews to 40-years to the Indiana Department of Correction.

Co-Defendant, Amber Bradley plead guilty previously and received a twenty-year sentence to the Indiana Department of Correction for her role in the death. Probable cause affidavits in her case and Matthew’s case reveal Bradley arranged the sale of drugs between Anton Matthews and Kayla Lincoln. Co-Defendant Kayla Lincoln is set to stand trial June 18, 2025.
