Prosecutor Noah Schafer is joining prosecutors, the Indiana Department of Child Services’s Child Support Bureau, and child support services agencies throughout the country to recognize August as Child Support Awareness Month.

Prosecutor Schafer wants to use this month to increase awareness about child support services provided by his office. The Cass County Prosecutor’s child support staff can help with determining paternity, locating parents, establishing child support orders, and enforcing support orders against parents who do not pay—all free of charge.

“As Cass County’s prosecutor, the well-being of our children is one of my top priorities. Consistent child support payments are essential to providing economic security and stability to our county’s children.

“My office stands ready to continue to ensure parents provide financial security for their children and are held accountable when they fail in that critical duty.  This education and awareness campaign is designed to help families learn about our services and empower them to take action on behalf of their children,” Prosecutor Noah Schafer said.

The Indiana child support program, carried out locally by county prosecutors, serves more than 200,000 families statewide.  Last year Indiana’s county prosecutors, county clerks, and the Indiana Child Support Bureau collected and distributed more than $498 million to Indiana families. In Cass County, Noah Schafer’s office collected and distributed nearly $1.9 million—exceeding the average for counties of similar size.
