4C Health expands access to behavioral health crisis services with launch of High-Acuity Crisis Receiving & Stabilization Unit
Last Updated on September 30, 2025 by Cass County Communication Network
4C Health is proud to announce the launch of a new High-Acuity Crisis Receiving and Stabilization Unit (CRSS), opening on October 1, 2025. This innovative service will provide immediate, around-the-clock support for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, ensuring that people across North Central Indiana have expanded access to the right level of care when they need it most.
4C Health will be transitioning its current inpatient psychiatric facility space to High-Acuity-Crisis Receiving & Stabilization Services, bringing enhanced resources and a modern model of care designed to meet today’s behavioral health challenges. By establishing this unit, 4C Health is strengthening its role as
the region’s leading crisis behavioral health safety net and creating:
- A “Behavioral Health ER” for the community — welcoming individuals in crisis, whether they
come voluntarily or involuntarily, are referred by hospitals, or arrive with law enforcement. - Expanded access for high-acuity patients, ensuring all individuals can receive immediate
stabilization services. - Sustainable, future-focused care, aligned with the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic
(CCBHC) model, which emphasizes accessibility, financial stability, and integration with other
community services. - A stronger partnership with first responders and healthcare providers, creating a true “no wrong
door” approach for individuals in need.
Dr Carrie Cadwell, CEO of 4C Health states, “If you have 10 individuals experiencing high intensity
behavioral health crisis, only a few of those will ever qualify for inpatient psychiatric unit admission.
High intensity crisis requires something more than what our current moderate intensity 24/7/265
Psychiatric Urgent Care can provide. For those with a primary substance use crisis, that entry to care
becomes even more difficult. Our mission as an Indiana CCBHC is to make crisis care more accessible,
enhance capacity to serve more individuals, to do that in a way that produces better outcomes for patients, and achieves solid controls over healthcare expenditures for patients. This step in bringing High-Acuity Crisis Receiving & Stabilization does just that. It is a top tier addition to our existing continuum of
24/7/365 crisis call line, Walk-In Emergency Assessments at all locations, 24/7/365 Mobile Crisis Teams
across 7 counties, and 24/7/365 Psychiatric Urgent Care.”
By reducing barriers such as medical clearance delays and enhancing transportation solutions through partnerships with primary care providers, law enforcement, and ambulance services, 4C Health is ensuring that individuals in crisis will be connected to care quickly and effectively.
With the launch of this new unit, 4C Health reaffirms its mission to elevate health and well-being in North Central Indiana—providing hope, stability, and support for individuals and families when they need it
most.
