Cass County Auditor shares changes, upcoming filing deadlines for Pay 2026 property taxes

The State Legislature made several changes to property tax deductions, effective PAY 2026 Taxes. ***

OVER 65 CREDIT

If you are OVER 65 by December 31, 2025, you may qualify for an Over 65 CREDIT on your property taxes.

If you already have an OVER 65 Deduction on file, that will be converted to an Over 65 CREDIT automatically. No need to refile.

NEW FILERS – OVER 65 Credit

Adjusted Gross Income Limit Single $60,000. Multiple owners $70,000. ***

You must bring in your income taxes filed in 2025 for 2024 earnings to file.

There is no longer an Assessed Value Limit!!! ****

DISABLED DEDUCTION

If already on file will be converted to CREDIT automatically.

NEW FILERS Disabled Credit must bring proof from SS that states Disability Benefits.

No longer limit on income. ***

HOMESTEAD DEDUCTION is still the largest available deduction. You must own and live in your home. Need Valid Indiana Driver’s License, or Valid State Issued ID &/or Last 5 Digits of your Social Security # or TIN in order to file.

If you already have a Homestead Deduction on file, you do not need to refile.

Disabled Veterans Deductions HAVE NOT CHANGED!!!!

New filings must be filed in the Cass County Auditor’s Office by January 15, 2026 to apply to PAY 2026 Taxes.
