
Firefighters contain 20+ acre Woods fire after an extended operation near Hervey Preserve in Logansport

Logansport, IN- Firefighters from five fire departments worked together on Friday, November 7, 2025, to battle a woods fire that burned approximately 20+ acres before being fully contained after an almost 11-hour operation.
The Logansport Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Michigan Road and Chase Road for the smell of smoke, and the area was hazy. Upon arrival of Logansport Fire Department and Logansport Police Department to the area, a large fire was discovered burning in the woods by the Hervey Preserve. The fire was burning through dry vegetation and difficult terrain. Due to the size of the fire and challenging conditions, mutual aid was requested from neighboring departments.
Firefighters from Cass County District 1 Fire Department, New Waverly Fire Department, Royal Center Fire Department worked alongside Logansport crews in fighting the fire. Together, they used brush trucks, chain saws, and hand tools to establish containment and prevent the fire from threatening nearby structures. Logansport Police Department assisted with drone coverage of the area. Cass County Emergency Management also provided drone coverage and rehab support. Delphi Fire Department was requested to bring several hundred feet of forestry hose to the scene to be used in final extinguishment.
After approximately 11 hours of continuous operations, the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
