LOGANSPORT – Cass County Prosecutor Noah Schafer announced Friday, November 7 that he will seek another term in office in the 2026 election.
Schafer, who has served as Cass County Prosecutor since 2019, cited his continued commitment to justice, public safety, and community partnership as reasons for seeking re-election.
“Serving as Cass County Prosecutor has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Schafer said. “Over the past several years, I have worked hard to build a safer community, support victims, and ensure that our courts and law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to hold offenders accountable. There’s still work to do, and I want to continue that mission with the same integrity and dedication that Cass County residents deserve.”
A Lafayette native, Schafer grew up the oldest of six children in a Catholic, blue-collar family. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1992 and went on to earn degrees in Business and English Literature from Purdue University, working a variety of jobs—including in his father’s roofing business—while completing his studies. He credits those early experiences for shaping his faith, work ethic, and sense of justice.
Schafer later earned his law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, where he discovered his calling for litigation after excelling in moot court competitions and trial advocacy. Upon graduation, he joined the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, beginning a career that has now spanned twenty five years of prosecution.
Throughout his career, Schafer has prosecuted nearly every type of criminal case—from domestic violence and narcotics to major felonies, including robbery, arson, rape, and murder. As a member of the Marion County Homicide Unit, he tried more than two dozen murder cases to jury verdict, securing convictions in over ninety percent of them.
Before becoming Cass County Prosecutor, Schafer served as Chief Deputy Prosecutor in Pike County and later in Cass County, where he handled most of the county’s jury trials, managed the daily operations of the office, and worked closely with local law enforcement.
Since taking office in December 2019, Schafer has led the prosecutor’s office through major challenges and periods of innovation. Under Schafer’s leadership, Cass County’s IV-D Child Support Division has been recognized multiple times for excellence in collections. During and after the COVID-19 shutdown, his office doubled its trial output to reduce the backlog of cases, and Schafer continues to personally try major cases himself. He has modernized case management systems, expanded multilingual communication capacity, and continued to strengthen relationships with local law enforcement agencies.
Beyond the courtroom, Schafer remains deeply engaged in the Cass County community. He is a frequent speaker at local schools and community organizations and is active in the Cass County Domestic Violence Task Force, and at All Saints Catholic Church, where he serves as a lector and has chaired men’s prayer groups and fundraisers including the popular Two Rivers Trivia Nights. Schafer also coaches and sponsors youth sports, supports 4-H programs, and serves as a Republican Precinct Committeeman.
Schafer and his wife, Daphne, live in Logansport with their four children.
Formal paperwork to become a candidate will be filed in January 2026.
