Evelyn M. Ebey was gathered into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ to walk the heavenly street of gold on December 9, 2025. Born July 17, 1944, in Kokomo, IN to Lewis Ren and Bessie C. (Rockey) Kendall, the youngest of their four children. She grew up on farms in Carroll and Clinton counties, and the lifestyle of hard work gave her a never give up attitude. She was a 1962 graduate of Clinton Central High School. She then worked at Mallory Controls in Frankfort, and this is how she would meet her future husband. A coworker, Don Durham, told her he knew just the gentleman and insisted she meet his brother-in-law, Cecil. Evelyn and Cecil were married at West Point Christian Church on July 12, 1970. Their dedication to each other and faith in God was lived daily as an example to their family through trials and adventure. She was a committed caregiver to Cecil during his multiple health struggles. They operated a family business together and traveled a great deal. One of their favorite trips was to Hawaii. There were also a lot of adventurous road trips in their RV when the girls were young, and she completed travel to all 50 states with the final big trip to Alaska in 2019. She retired from General Motors/Delphi in 2006 after 25 years of service. She was a devoted grandma, attending and supporting all of her grandchildren’s activities, whether it was a freezing marching band competition or hot summer ballgame. Evelyn was a member of and attended Galveston First Baptist Church for more than 45 years. Evelyn is survived by one sister, Donna (Gerald) Rice. She is also survived by daughters Anita Snyder and Gayle (Michael) McDowell, three grandchildren; Jared Rothe, Abbigail (Corry) Eikenberry, Emily McDowell, two precious great-grandsons Cooper and Owen Eikenberry, nephew Mark Rice (Ellen Phillips), niece Christine (John) Mills and extended family. The joy brought by visits from Cooper and Owen was a tremendous blessing during her nearly 4-year battle with pancreatic cancer and they will miss their grandma immensely. She was preceded in death by her parents and eldest brother. She was also preceded in death by her husband after 40 years together on June 14, 2009.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 11, 2025, with visitation from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Galveston First Baptist Church, 307 S. Sycamore St., Galveston, Indiana. Burial to follow at Galveston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Galveston First Baptist Church for benefit of JOY Group.
