Marta Jean Johnson Brewer, age 72, Logansport, passed away at home on December 1st, 2025.
Born December 12th, 1952, in Elkhart, Indiana, Marta was the daughter of Richard Merle Johnson and Phyllis Jean Waterman Johnson, both of whom have preceded her in death.
She first fostered her love of art while attending Hawthorne Elementary School and later Pierre Moran Junior High School in Elkhart. Marta’s love of genealogy and computers developed during her high school years as a student at Elkhart High School, graduating in 1971.
Marta attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) A. Brewer, Jr., with whom she had just celebrated fifty years of marriage. After obtaining her associate’s degree from Indiana University Kokomo, Marta and Bob married and settled in Cass County.
Initially, they happily settled into their chosen lives raising two beautiful young sons, Robert A. Brewer, III and Daniel Brewer on their family-owned farm, Lucerne, Indiana. Together they enjoyed many years watching their sons grow and prosper as they actively participated in school sports, soccer and baseball, and later as proud parents of both young men as they entered active military service in the United States Air Force.
Marta engaged her interest in computer science, both to remain daily engaged with her sons as they traveled around the world but also with her acumen in actuarial services. She thoroughly enjoyed family and especially annually hosting the Brewer Reunion, a gathering of multi-generational Brewer family members.
Marta “re discovered” her love of the arts through her incredible stained-glass projects, making the world more colorful through her thoughtful gifts of gorgeous stained-glass flowers which will long serve as a constant reminder of her quiet devotion to all those you knew her.
Well-recognized for her devotion to family, Marta never missed an opportunity to support her sons and extended family at special occasions, wherever in the world those events were taking place, the importance of which translated into another passion, genealogy. She spent countless hours with computer searches, extending the work previously started by a great grandparent.
Marta was a steady presence in all of our lives reminding us of the importance of love and support in good times and bad.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bob Brewer, Logansport; sons, Robert A Brewer, III, Washington, DC, and Daniel Brewer, Monticello, Indiana; grandsons, Grant Brewer, Robert Brewer, IV, and Bradley Brewer; father-in-Law: Robert A. Brewer MD, Kirklin, Indiana.
Also surviving are her siblings, Eric Richard Johnson (Kitty), Tucson, Arizona, Neil Ray Johnson (Shelley), Edmund, Oklahoma, Kristine Johnson Stokely, Mishawaka, Indiana, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, close family and numerous friends.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Marta’s life will be held at Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Cass County Arts Alliance and/or The Logansport Art Association.
Kroeger-Crain Funeral & Cremation is assisting the family in all arrangements.
