Last Updated on January 9, 2026 by Cass County Communication Network
Cass County, Indiana — Health officials are urging residents to take precautions as cases of influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) continue to rise throughout Cass County and across the state. These respiratory illnesses, common during winter months, can lead to severe complications, especially among vulnerable populations and hospital patients.
Immunization remains the most effective protection. Residents can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines from their healthcare providers, local pharmacies, or the Cass County Health Department. Experts also stress simple preventive measures: covering coughs and sneezes, frequent handwashing, and staying home when experiencing symptoms.
The Indiana Department of Health reports at least 17 flu-related deaths so far this season, which runs from October through May. Nationally, the CDC has recorded a 25% increase in positive flu tests and a 1% rise in outpatient visits for respiratory illnesses compared to last year.
RSV activity typically peaks between December and February and leads to thousands of hospitalizations among children and older adults.
Parkview Logansport has implemented temporary visitor restrictions to protect patients and staff:
- · No visitors under 12 years of age
- · Limit of two visitors per patient at a time
- · Masks are encouraged for all visitors
Health officials continue to encourage residents to:
- · Get vaccinated
- · Stay home when sick
- · Wash hands frequently
- · Cover coughs and sneezes
These precautions are necessary to help control the spread of illness throughout Cass County and reduce the number of hospitalizations.
