Verna Kae Swanson of Logansport passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8th, 2026, at the age of 84.

She was born November 19th, 1941, to the late William and Elanor Martin and lived her entire life in north central Indiana.

Known as Kae to her family and friends, she was always cheerful and friendly and never one to get angry. Her optimistic and understanding nature helped her to raise three children largely on her own.

Kae’s favorite pastime was bowling with never a season gone by when she wasn’t participating in a league at the local bowling lane. Recently Kae and her sisters enjoyed ‘game day’ each Saturday afternoon.

Kae’s earliest career arc started as a keypunch data entry operator, but when the manufacturing company was looking for a new computer operator for their IBM mainframe computer, her ability to learn quickly was recognized and she was selected for the position in what was a largely male-dominated field in the 1970s.

Kae is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Yumiko Swanson of Port Orchard WA; her daughter Veronica Swanson of Logansport; and her daughter and son-in-law Theresa and Tracy Smith of Logansport. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Makoto, Seiji, Masaru, Jonathan, and Talon; seven great-grandchildren: Yuichi, Nanami, Toru, Airi, Yumi, Madison, and Marshal; and her four sisters: Karen, Karyl, Jean, and Willa Dee.

A Funeral Service celebrating Kae’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 29 in Fisher Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.

Burial will follow in Bell Center Cemetery.
