Shirley J. Elpers, 91, of Logansport, passed away on June 29, 2026, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born on February 6, 1935, in Logansport, Indiana, Shirley was the daughter of Willard and Madaline (Riehle) Wray. On June 14, 1953, she married the love of her life, Bert Eugene Elpers, in Logansport. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage before Bert preceded her in death on October 7, 2012.
Shirley dedicated many years of hard work as a factory worker for Federal Mogul. More importantly, she devoted her life to her family. She found her greatest joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her home was a place where family gathered, memories were made, and love was always present.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky (Harold) Stanton of Lucerne and Sarah (Duke) Zeider of Logansport; her sons, Tim (Pam) Elpers of Walton and John (Anna) Elpers of Logansport; her sisters, Sandra Sue Swartzell of Royal Center and Roxie (Virgil) Myers of Idaville; one brother, Sonny Wray; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 17 great great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Eugene Elpers; her parents, Willard and Madaline Wray; her sons, Jeffery Elpers and Larry Joe Elpers; grandson, Matt Stanton; granddaughter, Melinda Gordon; and her great-granddaughters, Lexi Stanton and Lilly Clear.
Visitation will be held at Gundrum Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:00pm with Pastor Bruce Fultz officiating. Burial will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Logansport.
