Michael Charles Closson, age 81, Logansport, passed away August 10, 2026 at his home. Mike was born March 1, 1945 in Logansport, Indiana to Edgar and Lucille (Mayhill) Closson, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mike graduated from Logansport High School in 1963. He attended and graduated from Ball State University in 1967 with a B.S. degree in Sociology and Anthropology. He was an active and proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
Mike enlisted in the Army in April of 1968. After infantry training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, he was stationed in Panama for two years. He was discharged with distinction in May, 1970.
He met Anita Sue Franz while attending Ball State and they married on June 10, 1972 in Fort Wayne. Anita preceded Mike in death on January 28, 2023.
Mike was co-owner with his father and brother of Closson Lumber. He went on to retire after 41 years in the business.
He possessed a kind and gentle spirit and an innate ability to make others comfortable. Mike lived life with a generous heart and a quick wit. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing his fishing techniques. He gardened every summer and spring and skillfully produced a bounty of vegetables and flowers. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing and sharing his specialty recipes.
Mike is survived by his sister Christine Closson ( Thomas) Barr, Scottsdale, AZ; sisters-in-law, Melissa Closson Gerni, Logansport; Ann Butterfield, Wolcottville; nephew, Shannon (Araceli) Closson, Mexico; niece Braden (Jeremy) McKinley, Kendallville, and grand nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Closson, a niece, Brittany Mishler, and a nephew Corey Closson.
Mike dedicated his life honoring and serving God. His deep faith was the foundation of his daily actions. His legacy of devotion and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The family extends enormous gratitude to RaShawnda Jackson for her unyielding commitment, compassion and comfort during both Mike’s and Anita’s lives.
Visitation for Mike will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., at Shiloh Christian Church, 1047 N County Road 350 W Logansport, IN, with the service immediately following. Pastor Mark Marshall will be officiating. Interment at Mount Hope will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Christian Church, 1047 N County Road 350 W Logansport, Indiana.
