A member of Logansport’s elite group of individual state champions in high school sports is the latest recipient of a special city award.
Ted Patacsil, who won a state championship in 1976 in his weight class and was a state finalist his senior year, has been named a Logansport Bicentennial Citizen of the Week.
“When the current Logansport High School campus opened in 1973, opponents knew almost immediately when a wrestling meet started that they were likely not going to win Ted’s weight class for the next four years,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “Ted was a consummate competitor and a testament to the tutelage of his father, the late Joe Patacsil. With the opening of the new Berry Bowl, Ted became the second wrestler to garner an individual state title.”
Following graduation from LHS in 1977, Ted wrestled collegiately at Purdue University where his father was an NCAA champion and an inductee into the Purdue University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Ted returned to Logansport following his career there and currently operates his own business. He will receive an Indiana state flag and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office.
The Bicentennial program recognizes Logansport natives and residents who have achieved statewide, national or international recognition for their efforts. The award will be presented throughout 2016.
