Logansport Savings Bank Junior Board launches “Turning Dollars into Change” fundraiser to support Emmaus Thrift Store expansion
Last Updated on November 25, 2025 by Cass County Communication Network
The Logansport Savings Bank Junior Board is launching an exciting community fundraiser titled “Turning Dollars into Change” to support the expansion of Emmaus Thrift Store, a vital resource for families in need across the county.
The Emmaus Thrift Store is pursuing the opportunity to expand by refinishing approximately 1,000 square feet of space that is connected to the store, but not currently usable for store operations. This intentional expansion will allow the Thrift Store to accept more donations and serve more people. Plans for wider aisles that give people more space to shop will offer a more inviting and comfortable experience for those in need who come in to purchase items. Donated items are priced at a very low, affordable cost, and any proceeds generated from the Thrift Store go directly back to the Homeless Shelter, Food Pantry, or Thrift Store to help Emmaus continue addressing the greatest needs or most immediate priorities for the people they serve.
The “Turning Dollars into Change” fundraiser will kick off during the week of the 22nd annual Logansport Savings Bank Cass County Basketball Tournament, where all four county high schools compete for championship titles in boys and girls basketball. Beginning on Monday, December 1, students will begin a Change Jar War at their respective schools—a spirited competition where each school will raise money in hopes of reaching a $500 goal. Each school has a chance to have their donations matched dollar-for-dollar by Logansport Savings Bank, up to $500 per school, to double its contribution as part of the overall effort.
Following the tournament, the fundraising will resume in January, allowing students to build on their momentum after the holidays and continue working toward helping Emmaus Thrift Store reach its expansion goals. Collection jars will be located at each school, and also at Logansport Savings Bank in the main branch lobby. The fundraiser will finish by the end of January, to help Emmaus keep the project progressing toward completion.
“It’s wonderful to see these students, who have been so inspired to make a huge difference in our community,” said Jason Mitchell, Executive Director of Emmaus Mission Center, which includes the Emmaus Food Pantry and the Emmaus Thrift Store. “This expansion will allow us to accept and distribute more of the donations so generously gifted to us, and enhance our ability to organize, display, and restock items. We continue to further our mission through the blessings and benevolence of students such as these, and from the heartfelt kindness our entire community.”
“Year after year, our Junior Board students work hard to come up with a service project that they believe will make a meaningful impact,” said Chad Higgins, President and CEO of Logansport Savings Bank. “Students from a previous Junior Board held the ‘Fighting the Big C’ event to benefit cancer care patients at Parkview Logansport Hospital in 2023. Last year, our Junior Board students held the ‘Warm Up Cass County,’ donation drive to provide warm clothing items for the community. This year, they have decided on this fundraiser to get their peer students more involved. We’re proud of their creativity in using competition among their schools to make a bigger collective impact. Their dedication to giving back is a true reflection of what we believe community banking is all about.”
The Junior Board program, hosted annually by Logansport Savings Bank, provides students with leadership development, financial education, and hands-on community service opportunities. This year’s project reflects their ongoing commitment to making a lasting difference in Cass County.
