Logansport mayor announces appointment of police chief and assistant chief

Logansport Mayor Chris Martin has announced the appointment of Shawn Heishman as Chief of Police for the Logansport Police Department. Jason Shidler has been appointed Assistant Chief.

Heishman has served as Interim Chief since Chief Travis Yike’s retirement in the fall.

“Shawn stepped into the interim role with confidence, humility, and a deep commitment to our community,” Mayor Martin said. “He has earned the trust of his peers and the respect of our residents. Jason brings tremendous experience and integrity, and together they will serve Logansport with honor.”

As Chief, Heishman will oversee departmental operations, strengthen community partnerships, and continue the department’s focus on safety, transparency, and professionalism.

Chief Shawn Heishman brings 26 years of service to the Logansport Police Department. His background includes patrol and supervisory leadership, service as a Field Training Officer, tactical experience as a SWAT member who advanced to SWAT commander, six years with the Cass County Drug Task Force, and roles as the department’s Firearms and Emergency Vehicle Operations instructor and Training Coordinator. Heishman’s experience emphasizes officer development, tactical readiness, and community safety.

Assistant Chief Jason Shidler brings more than 20 years in law enforcement. He has served as a Field Training Officer, SWAT team member, Corporal, and most recently Patrol Sergeant. Shidler oversees the department’s Chaplain program, holds himself and his officers to high standards of conduct, and is respected for leading by example on and off duty. As Assistant Chief, he will support daily operations, personnel supervision, and community engagement.

Mayor Martin thanked outgoing leadership and emphasized continuity and collaboration as the department moves forward. “Our community deserves a police department that leads with integrity, compassion, and accountability,” he said. “Chief Heishman and Assistant Chief Shidler embody those values.”
