Maureen Louise (McKaig) Cook

Maureen Louise (McKaig) Cook, 80, rural Peru, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 19, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Born December 8, 1945, in Logansport, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. McKaig, Sr. and Betty J. (Martin) McKaig. On September 3, 1978, at Webb Chapel in Cass County, she was married to Ronald Edwin Cook, who survives.

Maureen graduated from Logansport High School in 1963. She attended Purdue University where she earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education. After graduating from Purdue, she was a participant in IFYE (International 4-H Youth Exchange), serving in the countries of Peru and Ecuador for six months.

The longevity of her career was with the Miami County Extension Office as the 4-H youth educator for over 30 years. From 1969-2001, she led the 4-H program and helped shape the lives of the many youth she worked with over those years. She always said that she had the best job being in the extension service.

Maureen was a member of the Dukes Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) for twenty years, The Boomerang Sisterhood, Chapter CQ PEO, Country Friends Extension Homemakers Association, and IEEA & NAE4-HA.

Maureen was a devoted Christian, having been brought up at Webb Chapel in Cass County. After marrying Ron and moving to Miami County, they raised their family attending Parkview United Methodist Church and had most recently been attending Peru First Baptist. For over forty years, she taught Sunday school at Parkview and served in whatever capacity she was needed.

She loved working in her flower garden and sewing anything for her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and supported each of them throughout the years in whichever activity they were involved.

Survivors include her husband Ron Cook, Peru; daughter, Holly (Andy) Tyler, Roanoke; Andrew (Carlee) Cook, Windfall; five grandchildren, Aubrey, Addison and Logan Tyler; Clay and Coree Cook; two brothers, Roger (Linda) McKaig, Logansport; Robert (Sandra) McKaig, Logansport; brother in-law, Ron Collins; and sister in-law, Janice McKaig.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Collins; and one brother, Edward E. McKaig, Jr.

Visitation will be from 2-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Miami County Fairgrounds Block/Project Building, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the Community Building.

A celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in the Community Building at the Miami County Fairgrounds, with her cousin, Pastor Tim McKaig officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Miami County 4-H Council or the Indiana 4-H Foundation.
