Peggy J. Schieber, 77, of Logansport, passed away peacefully at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, in the early morning hours of August 28, with her family at her side, following a brave four-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
Peggy was born on October 23, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to Clarence R. and Beverly J. (Kleine) Stone, who both preceded her in death. In August of 1966, she met her future husband, Allen D. Schieber, and the couple was married on August 23, 1969, in Lydick, Indiana. In addition to her husband of 57 years, Allen, she is survived by daughters Melissa (Robby) Kissling of Warsaw, Indiana, and Amy (Craig) Myers of Avon, Indiana. Also surviving are three grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud: Jacob & Molly Kissling of Warsaw, and William Myers of Avon. She is also survived by her brother Douglas (Twila) Stone of Florida.
Peggy’s early years of employment were spent with Associates Financial Services, but she became a full-time mother with the birth of her daughters. As the girls got older, she pursued and attained an Associate degree in Secretarial Sciences from Indiana Vocational Technical College (now Ivy Tech) and returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant for the Logansport-Cass County Chamber of Commerce and later for the Logansport Economic Development Foundation.
Since moving to Logansport in 1982, Peggy was active throughout the community with organizations such as the Performing Arts Council of Logansport, Rotary Anns, the Mary Dykeman Guild, and as a gift shop volunteer at Parkview Logansport Hospital.
Peggy was also a very active, longtime member of the Alpha Mu Chapter of Tri Kappa. She served several years as treasurer and also chaired the blood bank canteen. She helped lead the 1990 and 2000 Tri Kappa cookbooks, and her careful eye earned her the job of proofreading every recipe. Additionally, year after year, Peggy topped the annual nut sales, bringing in thousands of dollars in nut and chocolate profits to further the sorority’s mission of supporting charity, culture, and education in the community.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of the Parkview Logansport Cancer Center and the Ascension St. Vincent MICU for their outstanding care and compassion, as well as to the Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home staff.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, Friday, September 4, with the funeral immediately following visitation, all held at Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home in Logansport.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Cass County Community Foundation with Tri Kappa Legacy Scholarship Fund as the designee or to the Arthur and Ruth Browne St. Vincent House, Indianapolis.
