A Logansport native who has been recognized statewide and nationwide for her public speaking ability is this week’s recipient of a special Logansport honor.
Berkley Conner, a summa cum laude graduate of Ball State, won two state titles in dramatic interpretation and after-dinner speaking. As a senior, she won three national titles. She also was ranked sixth out of 600 speakers nationally. She graduated with a degree in psychology.
She remains at Ball State where she will complete her master’s degree in communications studies next year. She plans to attend the University of Maryland where she will pursue a Ph.D in rhetoric.
“Berkley is another example of the product Logansport schools produce and the heights she has been able to attend nationally by attending a state university in Indiana,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “She has an impressive academic resume, but she’s more than book smart. She has the capacity to speak to audiences, to entertain and inform, and that’s a skill commodity that is lacking in many areas of the work force. She is a shining example for Ball State, Logansport and her family.”
Berkley and her mother, Dawn Conner-Kraud, are the first mother/daughter recipients of the Bicentennial Citizen of the Week. Her mom was honored earlier this year as the former recipient of the Indiana Auditor of the Year Award.
The Bicentennial Citizen of the Week is an award presented throughout Indiana’s bicentennial year to recognize local natives or residents who have been recognized statewide or nationwide.
Conner will receive an Indiana state flag and a certificate from Mayor Dave Kitchell.
