Klaus Wilhelm Hemberger, age 74, Indianapolis, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Greenwood Village South, Greenwood.
Born April 26, 1940, in Lauffen, Germany, he was the son of Wilhelm and Luise Neureiter Hemberger.
On March 14, 1964, in New Albany, IN, he was married to Helen Clegg, who survives.
Klaus was the retired Superintendent of Logansport Municipal Utilities.
He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and visiting the casino. Most especially he enjoyed his granddaughter, Luise.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, and a former member of St. James Lutheran Church, Logansport.
Klaus had the unique experience of serving in the United States Army as a German citizen prior to becoming a citizen of the United States.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Karen Hemberger, Daleville, IN; sisters, Edith Timmins, Newark, Delaware, Camilla (Ernst) Schwab, Cincinnati, and Monika Hasenclever, Germany; and granddaughter, Luise Hemberger.
Also surviving are brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marge (Roy) Buford, Indianapolis, Joann (George) Finney, LaPorte, Joseph Clegg and Rick Clegg, both of New Albany and Joel Millar, Mechanicsburg, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Kevin Wilhelm Hemberger, and a sister, Traudel Millar, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Kroeger Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Rev. Marvin Hinkle officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
