Patrick T. Shannon

shannonSurrounded by his family, Patrick T. Shannon, age 75, Logansport, passed away at 12:46 p.m., on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born April 24, 1940, in Logansport, he was the son of Robert and Sylvia Florian Shannon.

On June 6, 1964, he was married to Marilyn L. Dodrill, who preceded him in death on March 29, 1998. He was then married on May 20, 2000, to Sue Ellis Thurston, who survives.

A 1959 graduate of Logansport High School, Pat then served in the United States Army. He had been a member of the American Legion Post 60.

Pat retired in 2010 as sales manager at Small Parts. He previously had been employed at Essex Corporation.

He was a member of the Logansport Saints football team that won the city championship in 1954, and continued to play football for the Logansport Berries. He was an avid University of Notre Dame football fan.

Every year since 1968, Pat and his family, and his father before him, raised the Irish flag at the Logansport City Building on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where he was coordinator of the altar servers.

Pat was a member of the Logansport Knights of Columbus Council #561, where he was Past  Grand Knight and former member of the House Committee. He was also a member of the  Pulaski Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

In 1985 Pat was General Chairman of the former Iron Horse Festival. He was also proud of winning the Chili Cook-Off at Amelio’s.

He loved his family and especially his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Patrick Michael (Suzie) Shannon, Westfield, Thomas Robert (Jodi) Shannon, Dayton, OH, Timothy Patrick (Abbi) Shannon, Sarasota, FL, Michael Thomas (Jessica) Shannon, Logansport, James (Elizabeth) Thurston, Georgetown, TX; and a sister, Gerry (Bob) Sattler, Kalamazoo, MI.

Surviving are grandchildren, Ryan Shannon, Allie Shannon, Ambrose Shannon, Emme Shannon, Maeve Shannon, Bixby Shannon, Conner Shannon, Lucas Shannon and Lilly Thurston; brothers- in-law, James Ward, Chattanooga, TN and Dale Bookwalter, Orr, MN; special nephew, Robert  (Laura) Burr, Kalamazoo, MI, and special niece, Brittany Klimes, Noblesville.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Pamela (Jeff) Miller, Sandy (Tim) Friend, Teresa Klimes, all of Logansport, and Debra (Gary) Blevins, Alabama; brothers-in-law, Bob (Mary) Louthain,  Logansport, Frank (Jan) Ellis, Indianapolis, Richard Ellis, Indianapolis, David Ellis, Logansport, and close friend, Melinda Hinkle, Walton.

A son, Michael Robert Shannon, and sisters, Roberta Ward and Kathleen Bookwalter, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Memorial Day, at Kroeger Funeral Home,  with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church. Father Michael McKinney will officiate.

Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Mount Calvary section of Mount Hope Cemetery.
