shafferSylvia Ruth Shaffer, 73, of Idaville passed away at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 05, 2015 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.

Born on August 14, 1941 in Perry County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late James and Marie (Ridge) Farris.

Sylvia retired from the Housekeeping Department at the Logansport State Hospital.  She enjoyed gardening and feeding her birds.

Survivors include her children, Mona L. Slaughter (Ronald) of Smyrna, Tennessee, Maverick E. Shaffer (Lola) of Logansport and Michael R. Shaffer (Nanette) of Idaville, brothers, Frank Farris (Betty) of Pittsboro and Gary Farris (Linda) of Winamac, sisters, Alice Shaffer of Logansport and Iva Smith of Pompano Beach, Florida, grandchildren, Raymond Cearing (Kelly), Waylon Shaffer (Sarah), Rachel Cearing, Lindsay Matthews (Michael), Whitney Shaffer, Dustin Shaffer, Jacob Shaffer and Ryan Hayden (Kim Bilyeu, who was also her wonderful caregiver) and great grandchildren, Kadence, Zoey, Jayden, Ava, Jack, Gabriella, Sierra and Alanna.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brother, William Farris and sisters, Wilma Green and Evelyn Hettinger.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery.
