James Hilkert Simms

simmsJames Hilkert Simms, age 21, Fishers, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 10:38 a.m., on Saturday, July 4, 2015.

Born in Logansport on June 26, 1994, he was the son of Ray and Sandi Hilkert Simms, who survive in Logansport.

A 2013 graduate of Lewis Cass High School, and an Eagle Scout, he was the certified head lifeguard and a swim instructor at the YMCA at Benjamin Harrison.

He loved everything to do with the water, including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing.

He loved playing basketball and bowling, enjoyed photography and music, and had been a 10-year 4-H’er.

James helped other addicts with their addictions by helping with intake and withdrawal.

A loving son, he was also a loving uncle to Jaxon Simms.  He was fiercely loyal to those he loved.

Also surviving are a brother, Blaine Simms (girlfriend, Peyton), Logansport; nephew, Jaxon Simms, Logansport; Nana, Joan Hilkert, Palm Desert, Calif.; aunt, Shelly Leinbach (husband, Brian), Los Angeles; aunt, Scherry Simms-Gellinger (husband, Richard); uncles, Glenn Simms (wife, Cathy), Tipton,  Mike Ryan, Eureka, Calif., and Steve Hilkert, Indianapolis; girlfriend, Amber Haak, Fishers, and many cousins.

Preceding him in death were grandfathers, James Lloyd Simms and C. Kay Hilkert; grandmother, Gwendolyn Sue Morgan-Simms, and aunt, Merri-Ann Ryan.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Church, followed by a private family interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.   Fr. Clayton Thompson will officiate.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Kroeger Funeral Home.
