Rev. Fr. Donald J. Eder

ederRev. Fr. Donald J. Eder, age 80, Logansport, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born August 13, 1934, in Elwood, Indiana, he was the son of John and Olive Bomholt Eder.

Father Eder attended Our Lady of the Lakes Seminary at Wawasee, Indiana. From 1954 to 1960 he attended St. Meinrad Seminary in Southern Indiana. On May 28, 1960, he was ordained to the sacred priesthood by Most Rev. John Joseph Carberry, Bishop of Lafayette-in-Indiana.

From 1960 to 1962 Father Eder was employed as an executive in development training at IUPUI in Indianapolis, funded by Lilly Endowment.

From 1964 to 1996 Fr. Eder was chaplain and director of development at the Logansport State Hospital. During that time he was the associate pastor with Father Francis Meehan at St. Bridget’s Church in Logansport.

In 1971 he earned a Master’s degree from Purdue University in Psychology. He then earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University in Adult Education and Personnel Management.

Father Eder was the pastor from 1976 to 1985 at various churches, including St. Elizabeth, Lucerne, St. Ann, Kewanna, Sacred Heart, Remington, St. Henry, Medaryville and St. Francis Solano, Francesville.

He was the pastor of St. Louis de Montfort Church in Fishers from 1985 to 1998 and later the pastor of St. Patrick Church, Oxford, until retirement. While residing in Logansport he assisted at All Saints Church.

Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and James Babb, Fishers, sister-in-law, Anne Eder, Nineveh, Ind., several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Jerry Eder, preceded in death.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015. The body will lie in state in the Parish Hall at All Saints Church on Friday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the Mass of Christian Burial.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kroeger Funeral Home with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday also at the funeral home.

Private burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Elwood.

Memorial contributions in Fr. Eder’s memory may be made to St. Louis de Montfort Catholic School, 11441 Hague Road, Fishers, IN 46038.
