purdueDelores M. “Dody” Purdue, 86, of Logansport, crossed over to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015 in her residence.

Born October 12, 1929, in Jackson, Michigan, she was the daughter of Tony and Ethel (Wendt) Hildebrand.

On June 24, 1949, in the Market Street U.M. Church, she was married to Keith L. Purdue, who survives.

Dody was a 1947 graduate of Logansport High School.

A homemaker, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Dody attended the Metea Baptist Church. She was known as the “Card Lady” because sending cards to people on their birthday or anniversary was her hobby. She never knew a stranger so she enjoyed visiting people in nursing homes, too. Her Christmas card list was in the hundreds and she spent days making each one personal. Dody also enjoyed the swing in her backyard, under the big oak tree, where she watched the hummingbirds and bluebirds.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Sherry Purdue, of Logansport; three grandchildren, Melissa (Jonathon) Kimmel, Matt (Lauren) Leach and Mark Leach; and three great-grandchildren Jacob, Brandon and Bella Kimmel.

She was preceded in death by six brothers Dallas, Quincy, Thomas, Donnie and Herbert “Sonny” Hildebrand and Charles Smith; and three sisters, Helen Brumbaugh, Selma Vaughn and Bernice Waldsmith.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Dody Purdue will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Cordes officiating.

Burial will follow in  Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday in the funeral chapel.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Fifth Third Bank in care of the Kimmel family for Dody’s granddaughter Bella’s upcoming surgery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
