Lewis Franklin

franklinLewis Franklin, 83, of Royal Center passed away unexpectedly at 10:25 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 18, 1932 in Grayson County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Jess and Roxie Mae (Haycraft) Franklin.  On October 21, 1955 he married Leora H. Hutchison, she survives.

Lewis was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Fessenden during the Korean War.

He retired from Essroc in 1997 after 43 years as a heavy equipment operator.

Lewis was a member of the American Legion and the Royal Center Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed gardening, yard work and most of all watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Leora H. Franklin of Royal Center, children, Tony Franklin (Teresa) of Royal Center, Kellie Haynes (Tom) of Logansport, Chris Franklin (Lani) of Royal Center and Leslie Grigsby (Steve) of Royal Center, sisters, Marie Dimmitt of Clarksville, Delores Gray of Connersville, and Edwina Lawson of Pendleton, brothers, Danny Franklin of Scottsburg and Cletus Franklin of Scottsburg, grandchildren, Lee Franklin (Sara), Joe Franklin (Tracy), Dave Franklin (Abby), Jessica Brown (Wesley), Ashley Long (Kipp), Jake Franklin (Lisa), Casey Franklin, Nathan Grigsby and Blair Grigsby.  He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Burtress Holmes, Imogene Vest, Euleta Morgan and Joyce Franklin and brothers, Robert Franklin, Laymon “Jake” Franklin, Allus Franklin and Herman Franklin.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor Tim Minnick officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial with Military Rites will be performed at Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Royal Center Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund.
