allen Joe G. Allen, 66, of Logansport, passed away unexpectedly at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015, in the emergency room of Logansport Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Born on October 24, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of Oscar Lyle and Harriette (Glover) Allen. His mother survives in Sun City, Florida.

On June 26, 1976, in Hollywood, Florida, he married Kathleen (McCrea) Allen, who survives. The couple moved to Logansport following their marriage.

Joe was a 1967 graduate of McArthur High School in Hollywood, Florida. He was a graduate of the Wright Beauty College. In 1984, he established Designer Joe’s Haircare and Nails. His outgoing nature and his skills as a stylist helped his business grow rapidly. In 2012, he sold the business to his daughter, Edye, and was proud to see her carry on his legacy. He continued to work beside her and considered his clients as an extension of his family. He was lovingly known as “Designer Joe” to many.

A member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Joe had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others. He was also a member of the Team Hix – an outdoor club. Joe loved being outdoors – camping, boating, hunting and fishing. He was the life of the party and more than anything else, he cherished time spent with family. “Papa Joe” was a coach, a mentor and simply, “the best.”

Surviving with his wife, Kathy and his mother Harriette, are four children: Jeff (wife Rhonda) Allen of Logansport, Edye (Husband Pat) Barber of Walton, and Emily Perry and Lisa (husband Aaron) Reed, all of Logansport; two brothers, Charles (Rubye) Allen of Lilburn, Georgia and Robert (Susan) Allen of Riverview, Florida; one sister Julie (Jay) Caravia of Weston, Florida; his father-in-law, Tom McCrea of Lucerne; his sister-in-law Margy (Jim) Nicholson of Zionsville; eight grandchildren: Aubrey Billingsley, April (Travis) Coffman, Jared Allen, Aly Rody (fiancé Jake Rouch), Brady Barber, Ezra Allen, Alaina Reed and Whitney Reed; three great-grandchildren; Blake Billingsley, Rhea Coffman and Ellie Rody; and several nieces, nephews and their extended families, friends and clients who he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Allen and his mother-in-law, Lois Jean McCrea.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday Dec. 20th at Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Joe Allen will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21st at Fisher Funeral Chapel with his son, Pastor Jeff Allen and Rev. Horace Smithofficiating.

Burial, at a later date, will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Lois Jean McCrea Nursing Scholarship in care of the Cass County Community Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
