James W. McCord

James W. McCord, age 89, Logansport, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born February 25, 1926, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Walter and Catherine Woods McCord.
On June 22, 1949, he was married to Patricia R. Mucker, who survives.
Jim owned and operated the 80-year-old local business that over the years has been known as Logansport Lumber, Logan Lumber, Logansport Lumber Do it Center and now McCord’s Do it Best. The business was founded by Jim’s father Walter and Uncle Roscoe in 1935.
Jim returned to the family business after earning a Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University 1948. Jim was proud to have his son, Mike, join the family business in 1982, as well as his grandson, Jake, in 2014. Jim’s life reflected his love of his family and desire to give back to his community.
He was actively involved in the community in such organizations as Boy Scouts, Cass County Children’s Home, Logansport Jaycees, and the Economic Development Commission.
He had been a member of the former St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Edward McCord (Chris), Silver Spring, MD, Michael (Amii) McCord, Logansport; daughters, Kathleen Staugler, Fort Recovery, OH, Karen (Dan) York, Bluffton; sister, Martha McIlrath, Crawfordsville; several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are grandchildren, , Amy (Jason) Bihn, Carrie Staugler, Jeff Staugler, Chris (Jessica) York, Brandon York, Ashleigh McCord, Jacob McCord, Brantly McCord, Tucker McCord; great grandchildren, Paige Bihn and Drew Bihn.
A sister, Mary Royal, son-in-law, Paul Staugler, and brothers-in-law, John Royal and Dan McIlrath, preceded him in death.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Clayton Thompson officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, at Kroeger Funeral Home, and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Section of Mount Hope Cemetery.
